Competency charts: what each chart type shows and counts
The Analysis tab in Competency draws charts from the competency rows of the people you can see. This page lists, for each chart type, what you choose, what the chart shows and exactly what it counts or adds up, followed by the rules for Top, Sort and Filters and the messages of the tab. The controls of the tab are described in The Analysis tab and the chart dialog; a walk-through is in Build competency charts (Analysis).
Which people every chart counts
Section titled “Which people every chart counts”Every chart counts only people who are active in Competency (no end date, or an end date today or later) and whom you can see in Competency: with Approve on the Competency row of the rights table (The Users page and the rights table), yourself and the people within your responsibility; with Manage or higher, everyone. Two users can therefore see different numbers in the same predefined chart. A user with Approve but no responsibility assigned sees the Analysis tab greyed out; see Rights in Competency, action by action.
Chart types
Section titled “Chart types”The buttons under Select a chart type in the chart dialog, with what each chart counts:
| Chart type button | You choose | What the chart shows |
|---|---|---|
| Title | Nothing more | The number of people per title. |
| One button per global field, with the field’s name | Nothing more | The number of people per value of that global field. The name boxes are filled in for you with “Total users grouped by” and the field’s name; you can change them. |
| “Competencies and users of selected capsule” | A capsule (Select a capsule) | Two charts about the people linked to the capsule: “Competencies of selected capsule” (one group per competency, one bar per person) and “Users of selected capsule” (one group per person, one bar per competency). Each shows level and wanted level; a missing level counts as 0. |
| “User’s leves by competency” (shown exactly like this in ABMS) | A competency (Select a competency) | For each person who holds the competency: their Level and Wanted level. |
| “Selected user’s competencies” | A person (Select a user) | For each competency the person holds: Level and Wanted level. |
| “Total level of selected competency” | A competency | Two bars: the sum of Level and the sum of Wanted level over everyone who holds the competency. |
| “Total level by competence in capsule” | A capsule | For each competency: the sum of Level and the sum of Wanted level over the people linked to the capsule. |
| “Total employee by competence” | Nothing more | For each competency, two bars: “Actual Employee Number” is the number of people who hold the competency with a Level of 1 or higher (a row without a level is not counted); “Desired Employee Number” is the No. of Employees set on the competency in the Admin tab. |
| “Cost per year of Planned Activities” | Nothing more | The sum of Training cost of the rows with the status Planned, one bar per year of their Planned date. Rows without a planned date are added up in a bar without a year. |
| “Cost per year for performed activities” | Nothing more | The sum of Training cost of the rows with the status Performed, one bar per year of their Performed date. Rows without a performed date are added up in a bar without a year. |
| “Cost per competency for planned” | “Time frame:” with “From” and “To” | One bar per row with the status Planned whose Planned date is from “From” to “To” (both days included), labelled with the competency’s name and showing the row’s Training cost. An empty “From” or “To” leaves that side open. |
| “Cost per competency for performed” | “Time frame:” with “From” and “To” | The same for rows with the status Performed, by their Performed date. |
- The cost charts use only rows with the matching status: a row with a planned date but the status Performed is not in the planned charts.
- Hover over a bar: in the cost charts the tooltip shows “Total training cost:” and the amount; in the title and global-field charts it shows “Total no. of users:” and the number.
- The chart dialog also has Chart name with “English” and “Norwegian” for the chart’s name.
Top, Sort and Filters
Section titled “Top, Sort and Filters”These controls are shown only on charts you created, in the chart’s toolbar. A user with Manage or higher who opens the chart dialog on someone else’s chart by clicking its name gets the chart dialog only, without Top, Sort and Filters.
| Chart type | Top | Sort | Filters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Title, global-field charts and the four cost charts | Yes | Sort switches between ascending and descending by the number of people or the cost. | Yes |
| “Competencies and users of selected capsule”, “User’s leves by competency”, “Total level by competence in capsule” | Yes | Level or Wanted level | Yes |
| “Selected user’s competencies” | Yes | Level or Wanted level | No |
| “Total employee by competence” | Yes | By number of employees or By desired number of employees | Yes |
| “Total level of selected competency” | No | No | Yes |
- In the Title, global-field, cost, “Total employee by competence” and “Selected user’s competencies” charts, Top with a number N keeps the N entries with the highest values, whichever direction Sort has; Sort only decides whether they are shown from the highest or the lowest value. The value is the one Sort uses; without a sort it is the number of people or the cost, Wanted level in “Selected user’s competencies”, and “Desired Employee Number” in “Total employee by competence”, shown from the highest value down.
- In “Competencies and users of selected capsule” and “Total level by competence in capsule”, Top works only together with a Sort: it keeps the N people and competencies (or the N competencies) with the highest sum of the value chosen in Sort (Level or Wanted level). Without a sort, Top has no effect on these charts.
- In “User’s leves by competency”, Top does not limit the chart; only Sort changes it.
- Filters opens a dialog titled Filters, with one button per filter: people, and each global field your company uses in Competency. Pick one or more values in each; the chart then counts only the people who match. Close it with Close.
Who can change a chart
Section titled “Who can change a chart”- The owner of a chart (the user who created it) has the chart toolbar and can open the chart’s settings with the filter icon or by clicking the chart’s name. The dialog is then titled “Update chart”.
- Users with the Manage right or higher on the Competency row can click the name of any chart on their page to open the same dialog, also for a predefined chart that someone else created.
- A predefined chart is one shared chart. A change saved to it is seen by everyone who has it on their page.
Messages on the Analysis tab
Section titled “Messages on the Analysis tab”| Message | When |
|---|---|
| “Chart created successfully” | After Ok in the chart dialog. |
| “Chart updated successfully” | After Update in the chart dialog. |
| “Chart deleted successfully” | After a predefined chart is deleted, and also after you remove a chart from your page with its x (the chart itself is kept). |
| “Please confirm deletion of chart from Predefined charts”, titled “Delete chart from Predefined charts” | Before a predefined chart is deleted with the x in Select a predefined chart. |
| “Create predefined chart with this set up” | Tooltip on Save as predefined chart. |
