Create a job safety analysis
On the Job Safety Analysis index, click New JSA, fill in the Add JSA dialog and click Save. ABMS then takes you through two pages: first the help texts for the analysis’s risk scales, which you can adjust for this analysis, and then an identification page where you list the job steps and their risk factors. Saving that page opens the new analysis. Creating an analysis needs the Create right on the Job Safety Analysis row.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Job Safety Analysis appears in the left menu only if your company has the module and you have at least the Read right on its row. If you don’t see it, contact your user administrator. See The top bar and the left menu.
- You need the Create right on the Job Safety Analysis row. Your user administrator grants it; see Give a user access rights.
- Decide on the scale texts before you start: the help-text page in step 4 appears only once, right after you create the analysis, and it is the only place where the scale texts can be changed.
-
Select Job Safety Analysis in the left menu and click New JSA.
-
In the Add JSA dialog, fill in the fields. None of them is required.
Field What to enter Area The name of the analysis. It becomes the title in the list and in the heading. Discipline The discipline the job belongs to. Scope What the analysis covers. Responsible The person responsible, as free text. Reference A reference, for example a work order. JSA responsible The person responsible for the analysis, as free text. JSA group The people taking part, separated by commas. Date The date of the analysis. It starts as today’s date. -
Click Save. The analysis is created and the help-text page opens with the heading Please review the matrix help text and change them if necessary.
-
On the help-text page, check the texts for the probability levels and the consequence levels. There is one tab per risk category: personal, asset, environment and reputation. To change a text, click its pencil icon, type the English and Norwegian text in the fields that open on the right, and click the button under them to update. The change applies to this analysis only.
-
Click the save button at the bottom of the page. The identification page opens with the heading JSA analysis.
-
Click Add row to add a row, and fill in Job step and Risk factor. Add one row per job step and risk factor. Use Delete on a row to remove it before saving.
-
Click Save. The rows are saved as job steps with status Open, and the analysis page opens.
What you should see
Section titled “What you should see”The analysis page shows the job steps you entered, in the order you entered them, with all risk scores at 0. The analysis appears on the index under its Area. Next, assess the risk of each job step; see Add, assess and follow up job steps.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Closing the help-text page. The close button at the bottom of the help-text page takes you back to the index without opening the identification page. The analysis has already been created, and you can add job steps later with New item on the analysis page.
- Nothing to save. If you click Save on the identification page with no rows, the message “There is nothing to save!” appears.
- Leaving the identification page. Back returns to the index; rows you have not saved are lost.
- Default scale texts. Each new analysis starts with the standard texts for the five probability levels and the five consequence levels of each category. If you leave them as they are, the analysis uses them.
- Fixed matrix. Job safety analyses use a fixed 5 × 5 grid with four fixed categories. Unlike Risk management, there is no choice of matrix.
