Set up a connected dropdown
A connected dropdown is a dropdown whose choices are grouped in levels: each value can have values under it, to any depth, for example a site, the buildings at that site and the rooms in each building. You build the dropdown and its values under Super > Field Settings: click the plus button at the top right of the panel to add a dropdown, then use the plus icon on the dropdown and on each value to add values under it. Users see the dropdown only after Antenor has placed it in a module form; from then on, you manage its values on Field Settings.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- You need the Admin level on the Super area row of your rights; this is what shows the Super menu. Your user administrator sets this.
- Placing a connected dropdown in a module form is done by Antenor. Ask Antenor which dropdown should go into which field of which module. Whether a module can choose one value or several is set under Super > Modules; see The module editor: module list, Index tab and field panels.
- A connected dropdown is separate from the global fields under Super > Global Fields, which are flat lists shared between modules.
Create the dropdown
Section titled “Create the dropdown”-
In the left menu, click Super, then Field Settings. Connected dropdown is selected in the left column, and the right panel lists your company’s connected dropdowns.
-
Click the button with the plus icon at the top right of the panel. The dialog Add dropdown opens.

-
Type the name in Title. For separate English and Norwegian names, switch on With translation and fill in English and Norwegian.
-
Switch on Full path if documents should show a chosen value together with all the values above it, such as “Site A - Building 2 - Room 14”. With Full path off, only the chosen value is shown.
-
Click Save.
Add the values
Section titled “Add the values”- Click the plus icon (tooltip Add) on the dropdown to add a first-level value. The dialog Add node opens.
- Type the value’s text, or switch on With translation and fill in English and Norwegian. Click Save.
- To add a value under an existing value, click the plus icon on that value.
- Repeat until the tree is complete. Each new value is added last at its level, and the page reloads.
Click the chevron next to a dropdown or a value to show or hide the values under it.
Arrange the values
Section titled “Arrange the values”Drag a value to change its place in its level, or to move it under another value of the same dropdown. A value cannot be moved to another dropdown. For a first-level value, press and hold for half a second before you drag.
What you should see
Section titled “What you should see”The dropdown and its values are listed on Field Settings, in the order you set. Once Antenor has placed the dropdown in a module form, users see it in documents of that module:
- In edit mode, the field shows a button “Select…”. Pointing at it opens the first level, and each value with values under it opens a further menu.
- Users can choose a value at any level, not only the lowest. A tick marks a chosen value; clicking it again removes the choice.
- With single select, choosing a value replaces the previous one. With multiple select, users can choose several values, but only one per branch: choosing a value removes the values above and below it from the selection.
- The chosen values are listed under the button. In view mode, print and reports, users see the same text, each in their own language for translated values, and with the full path when Full path is on.
- Values are listed in the order set on Field Settings. Deactivated values, and the values under them, are not offered.
Connected dropdowns can also be used as report filters and as KPI drill-down fields.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Changes reach existing documents. Renaming a dropdown or a value higher up in the tree, moving a value to another place in the tree, or switching Full path on or off changes how existing documents show the chosen values.
- A value in use cannot be edited or deleted. If a document has the value selected, editing it is refused with “Node can’t be edited”. Deleting is refused with “Node can’t be deleted” when the value or any value under it is used in a document. Both dialogs list the documents; click a row to open the document. Deactivate the value instead, so it is no longer offered.
- Deactivating is done at once with the ban icon (tooltip Deactivate). Click the icon again to offer the value again. Documents that already have the value keep showing it.
- A dropdown placed in a module cannot be deleted, even if no document uses it: you see “Connected dropdown can’t be deleted”. Contact Antenor to remove it from the module.
- Deleting a value also deletes all values under it.
