Find a substance and read its safety data sheet
Open the Substance register, type the product name or article number in Search and press Enter. Click the substance’s Name to open its data sheet page. On the Datasheet tab, click the Norwegian or English file link in the data sheet field to download the safety data sheet itself, or click Export to PDF for a summary of the registered information.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- You need the Read right on the Substance register row. Without it, the module shows a message that you are not allowed in, with the names of your user administrators to contact. Your user administrator sets the right.
- The register shows your company’s substances. Data sheets that other companies have added are not listed here; adding one of those is described in Add a safety data sheet to your register.
- Open the Substance register. It opens on the Index tab.
- Type in Search and press Enter, or click the magnifier. The search finds text anywhere in the name, article number, supplier, data sheet file name, symbol names, the status word (active or inactive), R, S, P, H and YL codes (for example H225 or P280) and the values chosen in the dropdown fields on the substance’s usage rows (such as location or department). A full date finds substances with that release, audited or updated date. Click the x in the box to clear the search.
- To narrow the list further, click Filter and pick a column to filter on, for example Symbols, a statement code, or whether the sheet is Active or Inactive. The filters you apply are listed under Applied Filters; click the x on a filter to remove it.
- Click the substance’s Name. The data sheet page opens on the Datasheet tab.
- In the data sheet field, click the file link for the language you want. The file downloads.
What you should see
Section titled “What you should see”The Datasheet tab shows the registered information: Article number, Name, the supplier, Address, Telephone, Status, the data sheet files, Release date, Audited date, when the sheet was last updated, the statement codes and Symbols. The use and analysis tab next to it shows where your company uses the substance and how the risk is assessed; see The Use and analysis tab.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Only Name is shown at first. The index table shows the Name column by default. Use Select columns to add columns such as Article number, Release date, Datasheet or Symbols; your choice and column order are saved for you. Columns you have not chosen are shown in a panel you can expand under each row.
- Download from the index. With the Datasheet column shown, click the file name to download the file directly. The file name is shown in your language; if the sheet has no file in your language, the other language is used.
- Inactive substances are still listed. A deactivated data sheet stays visible to everyone, with a red background in the index and Inactive under Status. Filter on Active to hide them.
- Export to PDF gives the sheet’s registered fields with your company logo. It does not include the usage rows, and it is not the supplier’s safety data sheet. It is available to everyone who can open the sheet.
- Codes only. The statement fields hold codes such as H225 (a hazard statement) or P280 (a precautionary statement), not the statement text. Read the text in the data sheet file. A code that is no longer in use is shown with “ [Deactivated]“.
- Dates are what was typed. Release date and Audited date are plain dates entered when the sheet was saved. ABMS does not compare them with today, so nothing marks a sheet as old or due for review.
- Newer versions. Only users with the Create right are told when a newer version of a sheet is available. If you think a sheet is out of date, ask someone with that right; see Update a data sheet or use a newer version.
