Equipment attachments in detail
In Equipment Management, files and links can be attached in two places: to the equipment item itself, under Method, and to each maintenance record, under Documentation. Each attachment is an uploaded file, a link to an ABMS document or a link to a web address. This page lists the rules for those attachments that the main pages leave out. The attachments dialog, its buttons and the 20 MB limit per file are described in The equipment page.
Where attachments live
Section titled “Where attachments live”| Place | Holds | Removed when |
|---|---|---|
| Method on an equipment item | Attachments for the equipment item as a whole, for example the maintenance method. | Someone deletes them, or the equipment item is deleted. They are not copied when the item is copied. |
| Documentation on a maintenance record | Attachments for that maintenance only, for example a service report or a certificate. | Someone deletes them, or the maintenance record or the equipment item is deleted. They are not copied when the item is copied, because the copy gets no maintenance records. |
Rules for equipment attachments
Section titled “Rules for equipment attachments”| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| Order | In the attachments dialog of an equipment item or a maintenance record, the newest attachment is listed first. |
| Name of an uploaded file | An uploaded file is listed under its own name with a hyphen and a number added before the extension, for example “Service report-1760000000.pdf”. The number comes from the time of the upload, so uploading the same file again gives a second attachment with another name. |
| Letters in file names | In the name of an uploaded file, letters outside the plain English alphabet, such as æ, ø and å, are replaced by plain letters, for example ø by o. Other characters outside plain English text, such as € or –, are replaced as well. Plain English letters, digits, spaces and ordinary punctuation are kept as they are. |
| Deleting a link | Deleting an attachment that is a link to an ABMS document or to a web address removes only the link from the equipment item or maintenance record. The ABMS document and the web page are not changed. |
| Same file in several places | An uploaded file belongs to the one equipment item or maintenance record it was uploaded to. To have it in another place, upload it there too, or link to an ABMS document with Link to internal document. |
Who may add or delete attachments is listed in Rights in Equipment Management, action by action.
