The diagram page
The diagram page is the page where you draw a diagram and give it a name. It opens from the diagram library, with New Diagram for a new diagram or Edit Diagram for an existing one; see The diagram library. The page is shown only to members of the Diagrams access group, and every member can edit every diagram. The drawing itself is made in the drawing editor, a version of draw.io embedded in the page with its own menus and shapes. This page describes the controls in the order they appear, in a wide window. For a walkthrough, see Create and edit a diagram.
Controls
Section titled “Controls”| Control | What it does | Allowed values, default and when it is disabled |
|---|---|---|
| Heading | New Diagram for a new diagram; Edit Diagram: followed by the name for an existing one. | |
| How to use diagrams | Shows or hides the same help panel as in the library. | Closed by default. |
| Name (required) | The diagram’s name, shown in the library and when you insert the diagram. | Placeholder “Enter diagram name”. The label turns red while the field is empty. |
| Description | A short description, shown in the library and when you insert the diagram. | One line, optional. Placeholder “Enter diagram description (optional)”. |
| Cancel | Goes back to the library. | Does not ask first: anything you have not saved is lost. |
| Save Diagram | Saves the name, the description and the drawing, then goes back to the library. Shows “Saving…” while it works. | Disabled until a name is filled in, the drawing editor has loaded (and, for an existing diagram, its drawing has loaded), and something has changed: the name, the description or the drawing. |
| Drawing editor | The large area below the buttons, where you draw; see The drawing editor: menus, panels and toolbar. | While it loads, it shows “Loading draw.io editor…”. A new diagram starts blank. |
How saving works
Section titled “How saving works”- One page. A diagram has one page; the drawing editor has no page tabs, and you cannot add pages.
- For everyone. For a diagram in the library, a save replaces the drawing that all members see. Copies already inserted in documents do not change; see Insert a diagram in a document.
- Clickable links. Links you add to shapes in the drawing editor are saved with the drawing. They open in a new tab from the library preview, and they stay clickable when a document with the diagram is printed or saved as PDF.
- An empty drawing does not overwrite. If you save an existing diagram while the drawing is empty, the save is refused and the stored drawing is kept.
- No earlier versions. You cannot open or restore an earlier version of a diagram from the diagram page. Copy the diagram first if you want to keep the current version.
- Messages. After a save you see a message that the diagram was created or updated. If the drawing editor is not ready, or the save takes too long, you see an error message. Check the diagram in the library and save again if your change is missing.
What the drawing editor offers
Section titled “What the drawing editor offers”The drawing editor is draw.io, set up by Antenor. Its menus, toolbar, shape libraries and format panel are described in The drawing editor: menus, panels and toolbar. Antenor has added:

- Links from ABMS in the link dialog, for linking shapes to documents, reports and other content in Antenor BMS; see Link shapes to documents and other content in ABMS.
- Generate on the toolbar, for drawing a diagram with AI; see Create a diagram with AI.
