The text editor

Longer text fields in document modules use a text editor with a menu bar and a toolbar. This page lists every part of the editor as it appears in a document field, in the order it appears, in a wide window. The same editor is also used in some other text fields; who can write there depends on that page. You can use the editor when you own the current step of the document and have the Edit right on the module’s row; in view mode the field shows only the finished text. Which fields use the editor is your company’s setup of the module. For a walkthrough, see Write and format a document.

The editor follows your language setting, and the tooltips below are the ones you see in English. Spelling is checked by your browser. Everything you write is saved automatically: while you type, when you leave the field, and when you use a toolbar button. The floppy disk (Save and continue later) in the button bar saves the document and takes you back to view mode; see Edit mode: buttons, the send dialog, the required-fields dialog.

Control What it does When it is shown
Field label The name of the field. A * marks a required field; it counts as filled as soon as it has any text. The label may have a tooltip with a help text set up by your company. Always.
Table-of-contents checkbox Switches on a table of contents for this field. In view mode, the field then shows a list of every heading formatted as Heading 1, above the text; clicking a line scrolls to that heading. Lower heading levels are not listed. The list is not shown in edit mode. Always.
“English” / “Norwegian” Switch the editor between the English and the Norwegian text of the field. A required field of this kind counts as filled when either language has text. Only on fields set up with text in both languages.

The menu bar has the standard menus for file, editing, inserting, view, format and tools, which hold the same commands as the toolbar and a few more. After them comes the Document menu:

  • Each file uploaded in the text editor can be up to 20 MB. A larger or empty file gives “File size is too large. Maximum size is 20 MB”; a failed upload gives “File Upload Failed”.
  • An attachment whose image is used in the text cannot be deleted from the attachment list.
