Field values: saving, refused values, defaults and special cases

This page gives the exact rules for field values in a document form of a standard document module (for example Avvik, Kundetilfredshet or Styrende dokumenter), beyond what The field types in a document form and The table field say: how a value is saved, which values are refused and with which message, when default values appear, and special cases per field type. Which fields a form has, their labels and which are required are your company’s setup of the module. You fill in fields when you own the current step and have the Edit right on the module’s row; see The Users page and the rights table.

Rule Applies to
Each field is saved on its own, and only a field whose value has changed is sent to be saved. Every field in your section, in edit mode.
An empty field is never refused by the checks in the next section. Every field.
A field changed with the small pencil on a published document is saved only when you click its floppy disk; nothing is saved automatically. Published documents in a module without revisions.

The moments a field is saved (leaving it, choosing a value, every 60 seconds) are in Fill in the fields of a document.

When a value is refused, a message appears that starts with “field:”, then the field’s label, “is” and the reason, for example “field: Amount is not a valid number,”. The value you typed stays in the field so you can correct it, but it is not saved.

Reason in the message Field the rule applies to When it appears
“not a valid e-mail” An e-mail address field. The text does not have the form text@text.text, that is, an @ followed later by a point, as in name@domain.com.
“not a valid number” A whole-number or decimal field. The text contains anything other than digits, a minus sign, a point or a comma.
“decimals not allowed” A whole-number field. The number has decimals.
“content is too long” A text field with a length limit, for example a single-line text field (512 characters) or an e-mail address field (256 characters). The text is longer than the field allows.

A different message, titled “Error saving field”, means the field could not be saved for another reason, for example because you are no longer allowed to change it. Its text is “Failed to save the field. Please contact support if the problem persists.” or a message that gives the reason. In that case the field goes back to its last saved value. If it keeps coming back, see Get help from Antenor support.

Rule Field types it applies to
A default value is filled in when the field first appears empty in edit mode. Single-line text, multi-line text, date, dropdown, option buttons, tick boxes, global field, person list and risk field, when your company has set a default for the field.
If you delete all the text in a multi-line text field that has a default text, the default text comes back at once. Such a field cannot be left empty. Multi-line text with a default text.
A single-line text field gets its default text only once, when it first appears. If you empty it afterwards, it stays empty. Single-line text with a default text.
A date default is today’s date plus the number of days your company has set. Date.
Field type Rule
Required marker Only the * after the label is red; the label itself is not.
Table A table field shows no *, even when it is required. A required table still keeps the send button disabled until every cell of every row has a value; see The table field.
Table, number column Before you can send, every number cell must contain digits only: a cell with a minus sign, a decimal or a thousands separator, for example -1, 2.5 or 1,000, keeps the send button disabled, even though the cell is not marked red. This applies to every table, required or not.
Table, e-mail column Before you can send, every filled e-mail cell must hold a valid address. This applies to every table, required or not.
Table on a phone or tablet The columns are shown one after the other as slides instead of side by side.
Help text (question mark after the label) On a touch screen, the help text has a cross to close it.
Information text (fixed text in the form) on a form sent outside ABMS When the information text has an English and a Norwegian version, the person outside ABMS sees the version for the language they chose with the flags on the form.
Checklist The owner of the step can also change the list itself, not only tick tasks: type in a task, add a task with +, indent, outdent, delete, and drag tasks to reorder them. Enter adds a task below, Shift+Enter adds a sub-task, and Tab and Shift+Tab indent and outdent. An empty checklist shows Add checklist, and a new task shows the placeholder “New”.
Checklist, import Import checklist from template is offered in documents inside ABMS, not on forms sent to people outside ABMS.
Search-as-you-type dropdown of the older, untranslated kind In a search-as-you-type dropdown whose options are not translated (each option shows the same text in English and Norwegian), copy, paste and cut (Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, Ctrl+X) and right-click are blocked in the search box.
Global field without a label The field is labelled “Global Field”.
Small pencil on a published document Fields that make other rows of the form appear or disappear have no small pencil. See Rights needed for each action on a document for who sees the pencil.
