Standard scale texts and score values in environmental aspects

Every environmental aspect analysis has its own texts for the five probability levels and the five consequence levels of its risk categories. In the risk picker, the probability texts head the columns and the consequence texts label the rows. A new environmental aspect analysis starts with the standard texts listed on this page. They can be changed for one analysis at a time, and only on the help-text page, which opens once, right after the analysis is created. ABMS has no button or link back to that page, so the texts of an existing analysis cannot be changed later. See The risk graph, help-text and identification pages. This page also lists the score of every cell in the environmental aspects risk picker.

Rule Applies to
Each user sees the scale texts in their own language: English for a user with English, Norwegian for a user with Norwegian. The risk picker and the help-text page of an environmental aspect analysis.
When you edit a text on the help-text page, the editor shows its current English and its current Norwegian text, and saving stores both for that analysis only. A language you did not change keeps its current text. Other environmental aspect analyses keep their own texts. One environmental aspect analysis.
A text that has not been changed for the analysis is shown as the standard text below. Every environmental aspect analysis.
The texts are shown exactly as they are written, including a lower-case first letter where a text has one. The risk picker and the help-text page of an environmental aspect analysis.
The five probability texts are shared by all four categories of the analysis. The consequence texts are separate for each category. Every environmental aspect analysis.

In the dialog for changing an aspect, the badges for Public health and Legal are labelled Personal and Asset; see What environmental aspects includes and how it differs.

The same five texts are used for all four categories in an environmental aspect analysis.

Probability level Column in the risk picker Standard text
1 First column (left) Less frequent
2 Second column 1 - 5 years
3 Third column 6 months - 1 year
4 Fourth column 14 days - 6 months
5 Fifth column (right) 0 - 14 days

In the risk picker of an environmental aspect analysis, consequence 5 is the top row and consequence 1 the bottom row.

Consequence level Public health Legal Environment Risk Reputation Risk
5 Fatalities - multiple/regional Legal action expected Very severe pollution International impact
4 Fatalities - local Fine likely Major pollution National impact
3 Regional Likely NOV Moderate pollution Considerable impact
2 Local Possible notice of violation Minor pollution Limited impact
1 Negligable No action expected Insignificant pollution Negligable impact

“Negligable” and “Negligable impact” are shown exactly like this in ABMS. Level 3 of Legal uses the abbreviation NOV; level 2 spells out “notice of violation”. For a user with Norwegian, the standard text for Legal level 4 is “liten sannsynlighet” (low likelihood), which does not mean the same as the English “Fine likely”. If your analysis needs other texts, change them on the help-text page when you create the analysis.

For an aspect in an environmental aspect analysis, the score of a category is the consequence level multiplied by the probability level of the selected cell. The table gives the score for every cell of the risk picker. A category with no selected cell scores 0.

Consequence Probability 1 2 3 4 5
5 5 10 15 20 25
4 4 8 12 16 20
3 3 6 9 12 15
2 2 4 6 8 10
1 1 2 3 4 5

The same score can come from different cells: for example, 12 is consequence 4 with probability 3, or consequence 3 with probability 4. The badge and cell colours are on The aspect page and the item dialogs; the dot colours in the risk graph are on The risk graph, help-text and identification pages.
