Standard scale texts and score values in job safety analysis
Every job safety analysis has its own texts for the five probability levels and the five consequence levels of its risk categories. In the risk picker, the probability texts head the columns and the consequence texts label the rows. A new job safety analysis starts with the standard texts listed on this page. They can be changed for one analysis at a time, and only on the help-text page, which opens once, right after the analysis is created. ABMS has no button or link back to that page, so the texts of an existing analysis cannot be changed later. See The help-text and identification pages. This page also lists the score of every cell in the job safety analysis risk picker.
How the scale texts work
Section titled “How the scale texts work”| Rule | Applies to |
|---|---|
| Each user sees the scale texts in their own language: English for a user with English, Norwegian for a user with Norwegian. | The risk picker and the help-text page of a job safety analysis. |
| When you edit a text on the help-text page, the editor shows its current English and its current Norwegian text, and saving stores both for that analysis only. A language you did not change keeps its current text. Other job safety analyses keep their own texts. | One job safety analysis. |
| A text that has not been changed for the analysis is shown as the standard text below. | Every job safety analysis. |
| The texts are shown exactly as they are written, including a lower-case first letter where a text has one. | The risk picker and the help-text page of a job safety analysis. |
| The five probability texts are shared by all four categories of the analysis. The consequence texts are separate for each category. | Every job safety analysis. |
Standard probability texts
Section titled “Standard probability texts”The same five texts are used for Personal, Asset, Environment and Reputation in a job safety analysis.
| Probability level | Column in the risk picker | Standard text |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | First column (left) | Less frequent |
| 2 | Second column | 1 - 5 years |
| 3 | Third column | 6 months - 1 year |
| 4 | Fourth column | 14 days - 6 months |
| 5 | Fifth column (right) | 0 - 14 days |
Standard consequence texts
Section titled “Standard consequence texts”In the risk picker of a job safety analysis, consequence 5 is the top row and consequence 1 the bottom row.
| Consequence level | Personal | Asset | Environment | Reputation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | Fatality | Over 5 mill. NOK | Very severe pollution | International impact |
| 4 | Serious injury, possible disability | Over 1 mill. NOK | Major pollution | National impact |
| 3 | Serious injury | Over 250 000 NOK | Moderate pollution | Considerable impact |
| 2 | Medical treatment | Over 50 000 NOK | Minor pollution | Limited impact |
| 1 | First aid | Under 50 000 NOK | Insignificant pollution | No impact |
Score of every cell
Section titled “Score of every cell”For a job step in a job safety analysis, the score of a category is the consequence level multiplied by the probability level of the selected cell. The table gives the score for every cell of the risk picker. A category with no selected cell scores 0.
| Consequence | Probability 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | 5 | 10 | 15 | 20 | 25 |
| 4 | 4 | 8 | 12 | 16 | 20 |
| 3 | 3 | 6 | 9 | 12 | 15 |
| 2 | 2 | 4 | 6 | 8 | 10 |
| 1 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
The same score can come from different cells: for example, 12 is consequence 4 with probability 3, or consequence 3 with probability 4. The colour of each cell, and the rules that there is no sum across the categories and that the risk analysis and the residual risk are independent, are on The analysis page, item dialogs and risk picker.
